In al-Darb al-Ahmar, Bayt al-Razzaz grew from residential units with Mamluk origins, enlarged and connected through later periods. Two major courtyards and extensive rooms and halls form an interior world much larger than the street façades initially suggest.
Conservation and rehabilitation projects have renewed attention to this arrangement and its cultural and craft potential. Wooden screens, reception halls and varied spaces help explain a large residence that changed with its occupants and times. Interior access can vary, so the visit should be understood through the sections available rather than an assumption that the entire complex is open.
