The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat follows Egypt from prehistory to the modern era. One of its most important sections is the Royal Mummies Hall, presented in a quieter and more reflective atmosphere within the museum.

In Fustat, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization places everyday life alongside the history of rulers. Its main galleries opened in 2021 as part of a project developed with UNESCO, tracing Egyptian civilization through themes including writing, work, belief and craft.

The main gallery brings together objects made in different periods to meet recurring human needs. The atmosphere changes in the Royal Mummies Gallery, whose design draws on the Valley of the Kings. A broad view of civilization gives way to encounters with individuals whose names belong to particular chapters of that history.

  • Friday offers a second evening session from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.

  • Combine it with Old Cairo or Fustat.

Good to know

  • On Friday there is a break from 5:00 to 6:00 PM between sessions.
  • Photography and guiding inside the Royal Mummies Hall are subject to special rules.
