Tahrir Cultural Center opened in 2019 as part of the American University in Cairo’s centennial celebrations, within its historic Tahrir Square campus. Spaces long associated with university life gained a renewed role through exhibitions, performances and public discussion.
The experience can include galleries, Ewart Memorial Hall, the Oriental Hall and the garden, depending on the programme and access available. Moving from the square into the campus changes the pace, before individual venues shape it again. This is a place understood through both its architecture and the activities taking place within it, rather than a fixed collection.
