Built in 1907 for Ali Pasha Fahmy and designed by Antonio Lasciac, this Nile-side residence later became associated with his sister Aisha. Its conversion into the Arts Complex brought exhibitions into rooms originally intended for private life and formal entertaining.
Decorated ceilings, stained glass and a marble staircase draw the eye between rooms with different characters. During exhibitions, artworks occupy this richly detailed domestic setting, so the building becomes part of the viewing experience. Displays change with the programme; the palace itself provides the continuity.
