The Fustat Traditional Crafts Centre is a cultural institution focused on preserving traditional skills and passing them to new generations. The story of this place

Craft workshop · Modern

The centre traces its roots to 1958, when the Ministry of Culture commissioned ceramicist Saeed El-Sadr to establish a pottery centre in Fustat. The project was later redeveloped, with a modern ceramics building opening in 2001 and the wider traditional-crafts programme expanding through workshops that combine training, production and display.

The core of the place is the skill itself. When workshops are active, you can follow how work is done and how knowledge passes from artisan to trainee, with different crafts represented depending on current programmes and activity. The visit therefore feels more like entering a living training and production space than a conventional museum.
